Known for its pro sports and rich history, there are plenty of fun things to do in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
Among the hustle and bustle, you’ll find Universal Technical Institute Dallas/Fort Worth — a nearly 60,000-square-foot technical school with 28 classrooms and labs equipped with state-of-the-industry tools and technology. For those who dream of having careers in the transportation industry, this is the place to be.1 Dallas students can choose from three core programs: Automotive, Diesel and Welding.

Whether you’re a current Dallas/Fort Worth resident or will be traveling from another state to attend UTI, this guide is for you. Read along as we share some fun things to do in the Dallas/Fort Worth area when you need a study break.
The Dallas Museum of Art is among the 10 largest art museums in the country. Established in 1903, this museum offers everything from exhibits and lectures to concerts, literary events and dance presentations.
When exploring the museum, you’ll feel as though you’re traveling through various time periods and continents. General admission is free; however special exhibition admission cost between $9 and $16. The museum also offers discounted tickets on certain days and times, which can be found on its website.
There are plenty of free, fun things to do in the Dallas/Fort Worth area as well. Across the street from the Dallas Museum of Art, you’ll find Klyde Warren Park. This 5.2-acre park serves as a central gathering space for Dallas and its visitors. The space is located over a major freeway between North Pearl and North St. Paul streets in downtown Dallas, providing spectacular views and the opportunity to experience the vibrant Dallas culture.
There’s always something to do at this park. Everyday activities include croquet, table tennis, chess, free fitness classes and more. The park also hosts special events, like movies on the lawn, and food and wine festivals. Details on upcoming events can be found on the park’s website.
They say everything is bigger in Texas — so it’s no surprise the State Fair of Texas is the largest state fair in the country! From delicious food to acres of rides, concerts and attractions, this event has it all. The State Fair of Texas runs from late September through October, making it a great fall activity.
Dallas is often associated with being the place President Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. This is why many tourists pay a visit to Dealey Plaza, which is where the assassination took place. For a mini-history lesson, explore Dealey Plaza and stop by the Sixth Floor Museum, which has a variety of historical exhibits.
If you’re feeling adventurous, pay a visit to Six Flags Over Texas. This amusement park has everything from classic roller coasters like the Texas Giant and the Titan to attractions like Harley Quinn Spinsanity and The Joker. The park is also home to the world’s largest loop roller coaster.
Whether you’re a Dallas Cowboys fan or not, AT&T Stadium is worth checking out. In addition to the variety of events that take place here throughout the year, the stadium offers tours that take you through the dressing rooms and onto the field, giving you a behind-the-scenes look!
If you’re looking for inexpensive, fun things to do in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, plan a visit to White Rock Lake. With its beautiful scenery, it’s no surprise more than 1 million people visit White Rock Lake every year. Whether you enjoy biking, running, walking or are just looking for a place to relax, this lake with more than 9 miles of trails is the perfect spot. If you want to get out on the water, you can go sailing, rowing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking or even rent paddleboards. It’s the perfect place to get outside and enjoy some fresh air!
The Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Gardens is easily one of the most scenic spots in the city. Located in East Dallas, the gardens span more than 66 acres. If you’re in the mood to explore and immerse yourself in nature, this is the perfect spot to do so. Tickets typically cost between $2 and $17, depending on the season. Also, be sure to bring some cash for parking.
In addition to its historic spots and beautiful scenery, the Dallas/Fort Worth area is home to some pretty sweet racetracks. Yello Belly Drag Strip opened in the 1950s and has become a beloved track with loyal fans. In fact, Yellow Belly acknowledges fans who visit on a regular basis, some of whom have a multi-generational history of enjoying a day at the track. To attend a race, you can expect to pay around $10.
Devil’s Bowl Speedway is a long-running stage for dirt-track automobile races, including annual special events. Hailed as the Southwest’s most famous dirt track, it has a unique D shape, which gives the 10,000 seats in the grandstands an unobstructed view of the whole track.
Special events are spaced out throughout the year, including the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Cars, Texas Outlaw Modified Series and the Texas Winged Modified Series. Tickets to weekly races cost $12, while regional and national series events cost between $20 and $25.
Last but not least, Kennedale Speedway Park is a quarter-mile racetrack that presents numerous car races throughout the year. Deemed as “race track heaven,” this track is located about a half-hour from Dallas. Tickets for the grandstands are $16, and pit passes cost $35. It’s a great place to get your racing fix!
