TRAIN AT UNIVERSAL TECHNICAL INSTITUTE HOUSTON

With 220,000 square feet of training space, our Houston campus has a 38-year history of preparing technicians for the automotive, diesel, collision repair and welding industries. Additionally, qualifying graduates can apply to take advantage of Manufacturer-Specific Advanced Training focused on Ford, BMW and Cummins diesel engines11 after completing a core program.

Automotive Mechanic Training in Houston, TX

In the 51-week Automotive Technology program, you’ll learn the basics of automotive service and repair, brake systems, electronic systems and technology, and so much more. As a graduate of UTI Houston, you’ll earn a diploma and will be prepared to test for ASE certification to demonstrate your level of training and professionalism.

Diesel Mechanic Training in Houston, TX

Do you love working on big engines? In the 45-week Diesel Technology program, your courses will dive into truck brakes and chassis, diesel engines and fuel systems, transport refrigeration, and much more. Upon completion of the program, you’ll earn a diploma and will be prepared to test for ASE certification.

Auto Body Repair Training in Houston, TX

The Collision Repair & Refinish Technology (CRRT) program is designed to equip you with the skills needed to manipulate and shape metal using specialist custom equipment, weld steel and aluminum, create your own designs with specialist colors in custom paint, and much more. Graduates earn a diploma in addition to valuable I-CAR certifications. They’re also prepared to test for additional auto body certifications if they choose.

Welding Training in Houston, TX

In the 36-week Welding Technology training program, you’ll learn four different welding processes. Developed in conjunction with Lincoln Electric, your courses will cover everything from welding safety guidelines to various types of welding applications. As a graduate, you’ll earn a diploma and be prepared to test for welding certifications.

UTI Houston awards associate of occupational studies (AOS) degrees to graduates of certain Automotive Technology, Diesel & Industrial Technology, and Automotive/Diesel & Industrial Technology program combinations. All other graduates receive diplomas.

START YOUR ASE CERTIFICATION

A graduate of UTI’s ASE Education Foundation-accredited Automotive, Diesel or Collision Repair programs can substitute his or her training for one year of work experience toward ASE’s two-year work requirement.

CRRT PROGRAM CERTIFICATIONS

As one of only two campuses to offer the collision repair training program, graduates can earn up to nine I-CAR recognitions and certificates.

What sets UTI Houston apart from other vocational schools? Our expansive campus features an electrical and advanced diagnostics lab that houses more than 40 vehicles. UTI Houston also boasts three Power & Performance labs, as well as a dedicated engines lab where you’ll have hands-on access to full-size engine platforms from a variety manufacturers.

If you're interested in collision repair, you’ll learn metal fabrication and shaving, as well as glass etching, airbrushing and special-effect paint techniques in our Collision Repair & Refinish Technology training program.

  • What is the classroom learning like?

    UTI follows a blended learning model, which includes a mix of online instructor-led training with hands-on application in the lab.18 This type of training is modeled after what’s used in the industry today and can provide more flexibility for students.

    UTI’s core programs follow this style, except for Welding, Collision Repair & Refinish Technology, and CNC Machining. These programs follow a hands-on learning model.

  • Are academic classes such as math, science or English required?

    While not separate classes, math and science aligned with the learning skills are incorporated into the course teachings, along with industry terminology that technicians need to succeed.

  • Are students required to have experience in order to attend?

    No, our curriculum does not require prior experience and is specifically designed to teach the skills necessary to pursue a career as a entry-level technician.

  • What credentials will I hold when I graduate?

    Graduates earn either a diploma or Associate in Occupational Studies (AOS) degree, depending on the program and campus, with the possibility of additional credentials.

  • Can students work while attending UTI?

    Yes, students can work and attend school if needed. Our Career Services team can help identify local job openings based on a student’s schedule.
