The heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) program is designed to prepare you to pursue a career in less than a year.1 This program prepares students for entry-level careers such as HVACR technician, installation technician and refrigeration technician, just to name a few.77 In addition to learning various systems, you’ll prepare to test for certifications that are valued by the industry.

HVACR Technician Training

Working on HVACR systems requires an awareness of safety procedures, knowledge of heating and cooling, familiarity with tools used in the industry, and the ability to perform a variety of manual skills. In the program, you’ll learn all of this and more. Some key topics covered in the program include:

    Some math is required to become an HVACR technician, but not at a high level. Simple math operations such as fractions and reading a tape measure are the types of math included.

  • What is the highest certification for HVAC?

    There are many different HVAC certifications one can obtain, all of which are valuable to have as a technician. Several certifications are included in our program:

    • EPA Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification including Core, Type I, Type II, Type III, of the Federal Clean Air Act Section — 608 (EPA examinations administered by ESCO on campus)
    • North American Technician Excellence (NATE) Core exams
    • R410a
    • OSHA 10 General construction

    Outside of these, there are also higher certifications one can earn as they advance in their career. For example, a typical career path leads toward a state mechanical contractor license, which is considered to be a high-level certification.

  • How long does it take to get a degree in HVACR?

    The time it takes to get an education in HVACR is dependent on the school you attend. At MIAT, you can graduate in as few as 9 months.
