GM TECHNICIAN CAREER TRAINING OVERVIEW

The 12-week GM Technician Career Training program provides a mix of hands-on and online learning to diagnose, repair and maintain gasoline and diesel vehicles for the Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac brands.⁸ You will become familiar with the vehicles, equipment and procedures used at GM dealerships nationwide.

Graduates can earn General Motors course credits towards Bronze, Silver and Gold certification levels in multiple service areas.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

The curriculum of the GM Technician Career Training program is designed to prepare you for opportunities at Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealerships. In your GM mechanic training, you can get specialized training on Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac procedures, equipment and vehicles in the following areas:

ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONICS

Understand vehicle networks, vehicle diagnostics, electrical diagnosis, body controls and supplemental restraints.

BRAKES

Learn GM braking systems, including service and diagnosis of advanced braking systems and controls.

HVAC

Discover how to service and diagnose GM heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems to factory specifications.

STEERING & SUSPENSION

Understand steering and suspension systems, and chassis controls, including high-tech vehicle handling and stability systems.

ENGINE REPAIR

Gain experience in the full range of current GM repair procedures and precision measurements.

ENGINE PERFORMANCE

Understand how to diagnose engine performance and emissions systems of GM vehicles using the GM Global Diagnostic System.

DIESEL ENGINE PERFORMANCE

Get specialized training on the 6.6L Duramax™ diesel engine used in GM trucks.

MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION

Learn how to perform multipoint vehicle inspections and maintenance services.

CORE PROGRAM TRAINING

Applicants must successfully complete a key portion of UTI’s Automotive Technology program (except for AT12-150, AT12-151, AT12-203, AT12-204).
