Prepare for the Future of Auto and Diesel Technology with EV

Did you know there are currently 2 million electric vehicles on the road? S&P Global Mobility projects electric vehicle sales in the United States will reach 40% of total passenger car sales by 2030! Not to mention, California plans to only sell zero-emission new vehicles by 2035.

Because electric vehicles call for unique maintenance and repair, this drastic shift will require auto and diesel techs in California and beyond to sharpen their skill set. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that repairing electrical systems and drivetrains requires familiarity with high-voltage vehicles.

Having this familiarity under your belt may prove helpful when pursuing entry-level jobs. Developing this knowledge is exactly what UTI's California campuses are helping aspiring technicians accomplish by incorporating electric vehicle training in our Automotive and Automotive and Diesel Technology programs.

By collaborating with industry leader Bosch, we’ve developed an electric vehicle training course that helps equip students with valuable knowledge of current automotive technology.

A GLIMPSE INTO ELECTRIC VEHICLE TRAINING AT UTI

UTI's Automotive Technology and Automotive and Diesel Technology training programs include the three-week Battery Electric Vehicle Technology course.* The course fine-tunes the knowledge students gain from UTI’s current hybrid and electric training enhancements through topics like:

  • High-voltage vehicle operation
  • Electric vehicle components
  • Diagnosis and services
  • Electronic principles & safety
  • Unique training in BEV operation

Students also get the opportunity to work with the specialized tools, technologies and equipment currently used in the field, including:

  • Electric vehicles
  • Electric drive assemblies
  • High- and low-voltage diagnostic tools
  • Specialty/measurement tools

The electric vehicle training curriculum at UTI prepares students to properly maintain, diagnose, repair and test high-voltage vehicles and their complementary components — all while adhering to critical safety standards.

"The automotive technology of today is rapidly advancing, as it has the last five years, so the students of today need to continue their education. And UTI keeps up with the newest technologies."

LEARN FROM INDUSTRY EXPERTS

At UTI, we created the Battery Electric Vehicle Technology course with help from Bosch, a global supplier of technology and service.

Bosch is attuned with industry needs relating to electric vehicles, meaning students at UTI receive training that aligns with current demands, further preparing them to pursue entry-level roles with confidence once they graduate.

UTI’s Career Services department can even help graduates find ways to market their electric vehicle training to potential employers, whether that be through their résumés or during interviews!

ELECTRIC VEHICLE TRAINING IN FORD FACT

In addition to its incorporation into the core automotive program, electric vehicle technology is now part of the 15-week Ford Accelerated Credential Training (FACT) program.8,11

This advanced training program is designed to be taken after UTI's Automotive core training, equipping students with manufacturer-skills and credentials to help them stand out. In order to keep pace with today’s breakthrough technology, students in this hands-on program learn electric systems operation and how to safely diagnose and repair electric vehicle concerns.
