The Robotics & Automation program3 is designed to prepare students for entry-level careers like robotics and automation technician, control systems technician, and maintenance technician, just to name a few.77 We teach electrical, mechanical, and programming skills including programmable logic controller, valued by the industry.

Students can choose from two different robotics and automation programs. AAS degree option available at MIAT’s campuses in Canton, Michigan and Houston, Texas.

There are a number of opportunities for robotics and automation technicians — they can work in many industries, from industrial networking and communication to manufacturing or 3D printing. Technicians can also work in a range of environments, from labs to design facilities.
Our program options range in length from 51 weeks to 18 months. Students may choose to pursue the Robotics and Automation Technician Program, where they’ll earn either a certificate or diploma, depending on which campus they attend. The 18-month Robotics and Automation Technology Associate Degree in Applied Science program is offered at MIAT’s campuses in Canton, Michigan, and Houston, Texas.
Industrial robots are used to automate tasks that otherwise would be done by humans. These tasks are often dull, repetitive or dangerous for humans. The industry utilizes electrical, mechanical and programming skills to build an automated system around a goal or task. Automation supports different industries, including automotive, consumer goods, metal industries and distribution.
With an education in robotics and automation, there are a variety of potential career paths you can explore. Some of these include becoming an electromechanical technician, drafter, mechanical engineering technician, electrical and electronics installer/repairer, machinery maintenance worker, field service technician, and industrial engineering technician.
Completing a formal training program is a great way to prepare for a career in robotics. While some people train on the job, learning at a technical school like MIAT can prepare you to pursue a career in 12-16 months.1
